Blocked mode: solo blank-page longform. Signature strength: strategic reframing, converting doom verdicts into bounded sizing or scenario questions. He designed a personal work system around this (capture everything into one append-only store; journal entries treated as sensor data, never evaluated; recurring "stir" sessions where accumulated material is talked through; manufactured "vehicles" with real audiences; no planning layer by design).
