7. Instruments and constraint
Plays violin, piano, guitar. Building an open-source instrument: a touchscreen floor unit for guitarists and a desktop synth, free software on cheap hardware, priced well under products selling for three or four times as much (open-audio-hardware). Analysis: free software already matches commercial sound; what's missing is a UI good enough that you never need a laptop. Earlier open music hardware failed because it was a platform, infinitely flexible and so unusable: "Open platforms fail; opinionated instruments survive."
Same in himself: blank canvas freezes him, constraint makes him produce. "Constraint as feature" is both product principle and self-description. See working-patterns, music.
